When pruning weigela, trim back only one-third of the overall plant, leaving a bit of new growth to encourage more blossoms the following year. Maintain a weigela plant with instructions from a sustainable gardener in this free video on gardening.

  • Thank you for making and sharing this info.

  • The first year wine and roses did ok but this year it is looking pretty sad . It is leafing but not full al all. most of the fullest leaves is at the base of the plant . I dont think I trimmed it back that much but it sure is not leafing well at all. Really scatted leafing in the upper part of the plant.

  • It is pronounced Wy-Jeela not Wy-Jeel-ee-uh

  • Very useful, but I've been searching for information on how to propagate the weigela. So far, no luck. I hope I can prompt a reponse to this so that I can learn how do do it..........soon!!
