I have been cataloging the samples on Endtroducing, one of my favorite records, for quite a while now. And since I am such a huge sample dork, I figured I should give this a go

Keys, bass, guitar - Pekka Pohjola - Sekoilu Seestyy
Vocals, flute, cello - Meredith Monk - Dolmen Music
Break - Rotary Connection - Life Could
Piano - David Axelrod - The Human Abstract
Vocals, guitar - Baraka - Sower Of Seeds
Vocals - Akinyele - Outta State

Big thanks to all of you guys who have spotted Shadow samples and put them up on the internet. You know who you are! This and my obsession over the construction of this record wouldn't be possible without you all.

No, I did not forget the Organized Konfusion sample at the beginning, I just did not include it. I did forget to include "at twelve o' clock" from Outta State, though. Whoops!

Sorry the Sekoilu Seestyy video is still blocked, even after the death of the author. Don't support major labels. Apparently this was close enough to be misidentified as the real thing even after I protested. As if youtube even cares.

  • For the drums, Shadow actually used two breaks playing at once, the Rotary Connection one and "Soul" by S.O.U.L.

  • I'll have to try that, that actually sounds pretty possible. Thanks!

Unless you've got a link to someone else demonstrating it? :)

  • Great reconstruction!

Here's something I discovered, Shadow also sampled some piano on "Midnight in a Perfect World" from Meredith Monk's "Biography":

  • Right you are! There are so many misidentified samples for Endtroducing (especially breaks) that when I saw that on Wikipedia I dismissed it without close inspection. Thanks for confirming for me!

  • I find myself coming back to this song again and again...it has been this way for a good 10 years or so now. There is something so magically soothing about this track that transcends both time and space. Great job on finding the original samples!

  • this is very impressive - i was searching for the samples this song uses with the intention of making a remix, so i appreciate you putting the sample names up too.

  • impressive mang

  • 0:24 - from what song came that sample ?

  • if you go to endtroducings wikipedia page it will tell you the samples

  • Having the samples you should go for a straight rework instead. A good job nevertheless.
