It was to add a new element to the game.

we've all seen Mario 2d, and to a lesser extent 3d games. I suppose they wanted to see if combining the two would have the same 'gimmicked' appeal as other new games are coming out with.

Great videos though hurricane, it's looking to be a good lets plays. Better thus far than other ones I've seen, more activity and explainations.
