On March 22nd, Bay Area Women In Black called the Oakland Police Department to harass San Francisco Voice for Israel. They have done this several times in the past. What was the excuse this time? 4 people were standing on the median island of Grand Ave. opposing BAWIB.

This is Part 2 of the discussion with Sgt. Hookfin, tactical negotiator for the Oakland Police Department. Your tax dollars at work.

  • +1 to Sgt. Hookfin for handling a cluster situation.

  • -10 to Sgt. Hookfin for not knowing anything about the situation when the last 5 police called by Women in Black immediately assessed the situation and realized the calls were nonesense. A big demerit because he was called two weeks prior but arrived after we had all left, and did not do his homework for next time!

+10 to the Oakland Police Department officers who outrank Sgt. Hookfin for their willingness to listen, correct assessment of the situation, and putting to rest of this issue.

  • And why do you say racist? Because the officer is black? Most of the officers from OPD with whom we have worked have been black. Most of them immediately realize they are being used and go away to do something real.

Race has nothing to do with it.

  • He was called to shut us down yet again. The very next month, the Women in Black marched up and down right in front of us, literally within feet of us, at Israel in the Garden and did not feel "threatened."

It is harrassment because we are doing nothing illegal and yet we have to deal with having the police called on us repeatedly.

Imagine having the police called to your home repeatedly while you are doing nothing wrong, just because the caller does not like you!

  • Awesome composure shown by this officer, great example of proper pose, sympathy, articulation, and keeping the peace. Way to go OPD.
