  • Steve Smith?

    Rippin' dude. Wow.

  • that scott is some player would like to see him do some more vivaldi concerto for lute and mandolin

  • I really enjoyed seeing you and Steve play in Boulder City a while ago, hope to see the two of you play again.

    Thanks, Jim

  • Wow, Thanks for the nice comment

    Scott

  • That was a jaw-dropping performance. I think Bill Monroe would feel flattered.

  • Scott Gates, il sait tout faire ce gamin, country, blue grass, Vivaldi et quoi d'autre ?

Il est super ce garçon !

  • get real dude. Appreciate MUSIC.

  • Watch Scott Gates other you tube videos and listen to his and Steve Smith's music online at their respective web sites. Yeah, they believe in melody, they also believe in spontanuity and creative improv, fun both ways.

  • Both musicians are very very capable of playing the straight melody and usually do the first time thru with the improv solo being on the second break when they are playing an actual tune. This was a one -up kinda take that mandolin gunfight between two people that are great friends and making it up as they go along. It was a really electric performance and not everything follows the same pattern.

  • Good question from "bluegrassrulz." They play a bit of actual melody in some of the twin parts, and are forced into it a bit more in the second tune. (Nobody's perfect.) It's a long-lived epidemic. On a recent YouTube posting, Frank Wakefield says he's playing "what Bill played" on some song breaks. Nowhere near. He just plays his usual stuff even when claiming otherwise. Grisman does it too. Thsi is just how it goes. People can still enjoy it....
