D'awhh! i'm guessing it was stringhalt it had! x

He suffers from a terminal case of shitty camera.

Rule out vetinary issues, then maybe you will realise that it is your riding that has caused the problem. Not saying that to be rude, but horses get a problem called bridle lameness, which is caused from incorrect riding where the horse has learnt to compensate. Google bridle lameness

My horse did that after 3 years of going barefoot then getting shoes on. He picked up his feet just like that fore the first couple weeks because he thought the shoes were too heavy.
-
I am sure it is a problem with incorrect trimming and/or shoeing. It always is.

high suspensery or low one of the two its exactly wat happened to my horse befor he got put down(not from that injury)and he wud be lame one way and not the other. if you give time off or shock treatment it might help. thats wat i did and he was sound after. but everyhorse is different so hopefully everything turns out ok!

Ligament problems. Mine had (and I think has again) stretched one side of his suspensory ligament where it branches off. When it is not homogenous (the same length) it can make them lame going one way in a circle but not the other.

No, he is not gaited. I know about gaited horses and If they are gaited, they start at a young age and like always want to do it . In riding and just in the pasture. Your horse is lame. Sorry

i dont believe your horse is gaited at all, and as you say, why would he suddenly be? we have an older horse on our yard (who is actually gaited incidentally) and he started to show similair unnatural movement, we have removed his shoes and he is benefitting enormously from it. he would stand with his toes pointing out and be very narrow looking in the chest too, but not any more.
maybe it could be something to consider. :-)
hon, perhaps he has decided to be a gaited horse, but the question is why after eight years of perfectly normal trotting, he is doing it. Now you must admit - thats weird!
