Sage® 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate Cloths

Establishing a comprehensive program to help protect patients from Surgical Site Infections, or SSIs is imperative. According to the CDC and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement:
38 percent of all nosocomial infections in surgical patients are Surgical Site Infections1
2.6 to 5 percent of surgical procedures result in these infections1,2
Postoperative wound infections can increase length of stay in hospital by an average of 7 to 10 days1
And, the average cost is greater than 25,000 dollars per SSI3
Preoperative skin preparation is an important part of any infection prevention program. Reducing microorganisms on the skin will address one of the risk factors associated with these complications.

Most postoperative wound infections are caused by endogenous bacteria. Several common pathogens are likely to reside on the skin, including: Staph aureus, Coag-negative Staph, E. coli and MRSA. Greatly reducing the number of microorganisms is the goal of any preoperative skin prep product.

Sage has developed an entirely new chlorhexidine gluconate-or CHG-formula, and put it in a unique disposable cloth to make application easier. Prepping with the non-abrasive, textured cloth promotes even distribution of CHG on the skin. Now, skin antisepsis can be achieved in one-step.
Chlorhexidine is a unique cationic molecule with a vital characteristic of persistent antimicrobial activity. Once on the skin, CHG binds to the bacterial surface, disrupting the integrity of the cell membrane. This causes leakage of intracellular components and ultimate cell death. Bacterial cell death occurs rapidly over a broad spectrum of microorganisms.4 These attributes are why CHG is the antimicrobial agent of choice.

Unique Chlorhexidine Gluconate Formula
Sage's unique formulation is rinse-free and quick drying. It contains no alcohol or harsh detergents, yet it's proven to provide rapid bactericidal action.

Unique, One-Step Applicator Cloth
Sage's unique cloth is designed to distribute a uniform dose of CHG to the skin. It provides a skin friendly yet effective scrub to remove debris and organic matter, while allowing CHG to cover the area to be prepped. The cloth also makes it easier to prep hard-to-reach areas, including skin folds.

Years in the development, this innovative combination of cloth and formula has yielded this exciting new, FDA-approved preoperative skin preparation to compliment your infection prevention and Interventional Patient Hygiene programs.
