Anemone / Clown Fish (Amphiprion akindynos) - Reef Reality Episode 5

Anemone fish are one of the crown jewels of the coral reef. They get their name from their habitat as they're found within the tentacles of anemones in lagoons and outer reefs. They are unaffected by the anemone stinging tentacles due to a substance in the mucous covering their bodies which prevents the stinging cells from firing. They can be identified by their lovely orange head and body with black-edged white bars. They are also known as clownfish and are one of the most recognizable characters in the sea after the popularity of the film -- Finding Nemo. Barrier reef anemone fish are hermaphroditic, with young developing into males first and only later into females if conditions are appropriate.
