The theological giant, the late Rev. Dr. Samuel Dewitt Proctor talks about being born and raised below the scratch line, but how his hope and faith in God and the help of friends pulled him through.
He was my mentor when I was doing my doctoral work nearly 20 year ago. But Dr Proctor was much more than that, he was also my grandfather in the ministry. He found my father at Leland College in the 1950's and found me in the 1990's. We both benefited from contact with Dr.Proctor. He was a great man who saw a need to educate, love and encourage many of us to do our best. I miss him, but he like my father are with me in spirit.

I met him at Kean University, at the end of his journey.
As a wheelchair user, he gave me strength, and a loving example.
