Of all the tenor voices I've heard in more than 40 years of attending and performing opera, his is the closest I've heard to the remarkable sound of the young Jussi Bjoerling.
Unlike so many tenors who have a wooden tone at the base of their voice, Lanza had this incredibly warm, human and acessible tone and riding on top of that, a brilliant, perfectly produced, ringing high end with a vibrato as measured as a metronome.
There are many fine instruments, but few with as much heart.

@daminzs no doubt,but people try to say "every tenor is different and they all are good"...sorry to say but there are better and best tenor.Mario Lanza is the most human ,most believable tenor with precision.I consider him the greatest tenor without 2nd thoughts.

@daminzs touches the heart, amazing... too many people are hung up on perfection and technique. Mario has what you cannot learn. Virtue communicated to the human soul.
