The DPD arrested John Robert Veloz for attempting to run down a DPD officer at the intersection of Summit and Richmond Avenues at 2am Sunday morning. Three other persons in the vehicle were taken into custody for public intoxication.

According to DPD sources and police report 0217593V, Veloz was arrested immediately after he intentionally tried to strike an officer. Veloz is charged with aggravated assault of a public servant and attempting evade arrest by driving away (link to arrest report here).

His three passengers, one male and two females, were in a very intoxicated condition (based on BD's personal observation and the arrest for public intox).

Veloz is currently being held in Lew Sterrett, but has not been arraigned or had a bond set (jail record link).

BD was on the scene moments after the incident occurred and rolled video for about 15 minutes. Due to technical issues (read: we forgot to turn on the microphone) the tape runs silent.
