Two railtours to Shrewsbury on the same day can't be bad. Whilst the weather was dry the wind was ferocious so apologies for the poor sound quality. I had intended the first shot to be from the top of Ragleth Hill near Church Stretton but having spent 40 minutes climbing to the top and then finding the view of the line had too many trees in the way I had to quickly descend and find an alternative shot so ended with a compromise. The second shot of Tornado was a much better location but very exposed. The returns show KE1 at Bayston Hill and had to settle for a station location as it was dark for the final shot of Tornado at Church Stretton.

  • Nice vid - particularly liked the second shot with the steam blowing at almost 90 degrees to the engine despite the reasonably high speed. Must have been mighty windy.

Last shot: Still amazes me how many people turn out to watch a steam train go through their local station!!!

  • @HughFromAlice Hugh, Glad you enjoyed. The wind was very strong all day and steam through Church Stretton (even in the dark) attracts a lot of people. Regards, John

  • Excellent John your coverage of the days events were top drawer, Tornado with her excellent chime and the King with his splendid whistle all making to a very enjoyable day.

    Thanks for posting......Phil.

  • @981smithy Phil, Interesting point about the whistles, as of late I have noticed a liberal use, especially Tornado. I wonder whether there is a competition of use amongst the crews. I am sure you will agree it was a great day and there is some great footage on Youtube. Thanks for your comment. Regards, John

  • @addernoir01 Yes the second coach includes a generator which is the diesel engine noise you can hear. Regards, John

  • @addernoir01 I don't believe it had any special purpose other than adding capacity to the stock. The generator car is usually sited at the either end of the train. Regards, John

  • @Pmarsh1952 Thanks for your comment. Regards, John

  • @acw71000 Austin, I was disappointed with the view from the top of that hill it looked full of promise using Google Earth. However, not a bad day really and thanks for your comment. Regards, John

  • @robmasterman Bob, We were so lucky to get two great engines on the same day on a route that has produced some excellent video footage from many followers. I was lucky with the lighting on the first Tornado shot. Thanks for taking time to comment. Regards, John

  • @bkendlerA4 Barry, Your comment about the first shot is interesting as I was disappointed with the result but it is good to receive other opinions. Thanks for your comment. Regards, John

  • @TheStephengthompson Steve, I just had to get both legs of each tour so a station shot at the end was the only way. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for taking time to comment. Regards, John
