  • Hi, im new at turning (never done it before) and im looking at the turncraft commander from penn state, also im looking at this delta 46-460, which would you reccomend? for the same price i can get the turncraft with all the pen turning accesories that i want.

    Thanks, Josh.

  • @TheInternalKillerXx Hi Josh,

    I am a little bais. I just got the 46-460 and love it.

  • Hello there. I just got the same lathe last week. And was just looking for other reviews and came across your vids. They're very informative. I have some questions if you don't mind;

    1. What kind of chuck are you using? I was planning on getting the Barracuda 2 from Penn State Industries.

    2. What kind of finish are you using for most of your bowls?

    Thanks for your help.

  • @SuperLumberjock. Hi, I use a Nova chuck and am very happy with it. I would use salad bowl finish if you're going to serve food out of it.

  • That is soooo cool! That's nice enough to sneak out of bed for a quick turn or two. Very happy for you Carl. Awesome machine!

  • @BradburyGuy Thanks Guy No more squeaking LOL. have a great New Year.

  • I want to get a Delta lathe just like this when i can ... My old man tells me its pretty much a waist of time to buy one and he says there at thrift store cause people don't want them . I was like well what ever hes such a jerk sometimes about it , I used to work with these so i know i will have so much fun when i get my own .. I love my pa but he's always been a dream killer. I sure look up to Hayden on his Mad skills ..

  • @lorddennis1 As a matter of fact, I tought this out very well since wasting 800+ (with accessories) isnt something I would want to do. Well I am going to be taking a pen turning class to learn some techique and get a feel of what it would be to turn stuff. Then I will have about 5 days to think about it before I make my purchase. I live in ottawa, ON (Canada), do you know of any good clubs around here?

  • @TheInternalKillerXx What ever you get, think about it first and do not jump to the first one you look at, I did and got a mini lathe and within a few weeks I went back and got a larger lathe because the mini did not do all I wanted. What I would do is find someone with a lathe or visit your local woodturners club and and talk to the turners in your area and try out what they have and then decide which one you want. Don't get me wrong I love my mini lathe but use the larger one alot more.

  • Carl...great gift from the kids....but gotta say.,.. I like that squeaky haha! Keep it round! Jeff

  • This model lathe followed me home about a year ago and it's beefy enough for metal spinning.

  • Happy New Year Carl and to your Family from here in the UK. Nice lathe, will miss the squeeks tho :)

    Cheers

    Mike
