Using solidworks I completely modeled this toy robot and simulated its motion. This is a time lapse video of (most) it's creation. I love this stuff!

  • How did you find out radius's and fillets, etc? Or did you guesstimate those?

Pretty sweet! I guess i should go buy a few small toys and replicate them. It would be really good practice!!

  • @diyengineer For some of the complicated parts and features such as the legs, I took a picture directly over the part. Using calipers I could measure a dimension and ensure the picture was scaled accurately. For example the first part was made with this process. Using the scaled picture as a sketch background you can fairly accurately sketch over the picture for features that you cannot easily measure.

  • Did you do most of those measurements with a caliper and a simple webcam?

  • @diyengineer Yes, mitituyo calipers, and a small netbook's webcam. Simple and effective setup. The webcam quality was a little lackluster, but it did the job.
