Chip Smith, author of The Cost of Privilege: Taking on the System of White Supremacy and Racism, has been a social justice activist for over 40 years. Smith was active in the Machinists union in Philadelphia in the early 1980s. Later, Smith staffed Philadelphia's Community Labor Alliance in the early '90s and the start-up of Jobs with Justice in 1999. After relocating to Fayetteville, NC, Smith co-initiated the formation of Fayetteville Peace with Justice in 2001.He received a Ph.D. in economics from Temple University in 1994, and his book The Cost of Privilege came out in February 2007.
