The heroic Lew Rockwell appears here as a guest on the Ron Smith's (RIP) radio show (WBAL, Baltimore). When a caller attempts a defense of the Federal Government, watch the sparks fly! Lew delivers something akin to the libertarian manifesto, condensed into 7 minutes.

  • I wouldn't really call it a rant. . .but Lew is a good clear speaker! :-)

  • @ostralopithicus I agree. Calling it a rant doesn't do justice to Lew Rockwell's supreme eloquence. I thought "Epic Rant" would generate more views! Haha

  • That caller sounded like Newt Gingrich: I'm appalled- I'm insulted- How dare you!- I'm gonna cry!- You better say you're sorry!

    Nice job, Lew.

  • @TacticalCitySlicker My point exactly.

But to call the REGIME a secular one is a falsehood. It was an Islamic regime by the end, whether or not those behind it were even believers or not.

  • @BAGADOOBLE The Baath were/are arab national socialists. they couldn't care less about religion but like every other government they placate to the masses.

  • That was awesome

  • What is the number of this station? Moved to Baltimore because DC is what Lew said it is, I wanna listen

  • @tewj57 This is indeed true, hence his zealous efforts to rebrand himself as a crusader for Islam. Saddam was not a man of principle. He was not scared of radical Islamic ideas because they went against his principles (at least this wasn't the MAIN reason) he was far more fearful of losing his position of power.

He rebranded his dictatorship as progressively more and more Islamic in a somewhat vain, though not wholly unsuccessful attempt to waylay Islamists critical of his regime.

  • @ltajambi I'm well aware of all this; I fail to see your point. It's still a lie that the Ba'ath party was secular by even the most heinous distortion of the term. You realise that just because somebody agrees with you on most things, that doesn't mean they can't still parrot nonsense right?

Claiming that Iraq was under a secular regime is either an outright lie or a disturbing level of ignorance. Whether or not the Iraq War was justified is another matter entirely.

  • The problem with America is that credulous dimwit callers like this are permitted to vote. These people are dangerous.

  • The caller is a dimwit fool.

  • @BAGADOOBLE You do know that Ba'ath Party in Iraq was put in power with the help of the CIA to be an anti- Soviet police state? Saddam Hussein was a member of the party, and the CIA funded Iraq billions of dollars to start a war with Iran 1980-1988.

  • @BAGADOOBLE From Wikipedia's discussion of the motivations for the Iraq-Iran War: "Saddam feared that radical Islamic ideas — hostile to his secular rule — were rapidly spreading inside his country among the majority Shi'ite population."
