  • @Sbagaz86 SPOT ON!

  • This he meant by being a 'virtuoso' and he would not be offended by that. Of course the technique is the fundamental condition for expression (btw you said that ''The color/effects he creates with His UNSURPASSED TECHNIQUE' is mind-boggling'') and he had to sell. I agree, we must not stop at that, there is much more in Michelangeli.

sorry for my english, im italian

  • dear friend,Michelangeli also played other 'virtuoso' pieces...but no matter. If he had played many more or much less,it would not change anything.I think the word 'virtuoso' is often misunderstood;imho it's not just the technical 'sleight' of hand, but also the infinite range of shades, colors, calibrated using of pedal, respect for the composer and the score, intellectual honesty and much more!I'm sure my friend Michelangeli would agree with me.

  • Think about how many "virtuoso" works he performed. You can count on one hand--maybe Paganini var, Gaspard, Liszt 1. I have every single one of ABM's Gaspard. This live 1960 Prague is the most spectacular & my favorite. It isn't because of the technical achievement. The color/effects he creates with his unsurpassed technique is mind-boggling. To call him a virtuoso is an insult. People, he was a musician of the highest order. Get over his technique & listen to the music.

  • wonderful!

  • @earthypig yes, 3 times...including the famous last recital at hamburg, in 1993

    great concerts

  • @Sbagaz86 omg u heard him live.. how lucky..!!!

  • @filippeo85 Performer of Gaspard de la nuit? or of all of the piano pieces?

I thought that Lipatti and Cortot didn't record Gaspard de la nuit.

  • @filippeo85 Regrettably Lipatti didn't play Gaspard.....!

  • @devoludo

Ravel's teacher Faure wanted no rubato, and Saint-Saens too. And this is the conundrum -- how do we reconcile Ravel's own intentions with what we think of as musicianship and expressiveness?
