the integumentary system
The integumentary system is the organ system that protects the body from damage, also known as the skin. The integumentary system has a variety of functions, it may serve to waterproof, cushion, and protect the deeper tissues. The integumentary system can also detect pain, sensation, pressure, and temperature.
The integumentary system also has many layers, like the epidermis, which is the outer layer of the skin, and it acts as the body's major barrier against any harsh environments.
Next is the dermis, which is in between the epidermis and the subcutaneous fat, it holds most of the glands and nerve endings. For example, your sweat gland and your oil glands are located on this level.
Lastly is the subcutaneous fat, which is used mainly for fat storage.
The integumentary system can get diseased or injured rather quickly, which includes:
-Rash
-Blister
-Infection
-Sunburn
-Skin cancer
-Acne
-Cold Sores
-Mosquito Bites
-STD
If The integumentary system have ever stopped working, You would get sick rather quickly and very likely die. Most tissues cannot function without a well defined structure, so without the skin holding everything together, the structure would collapse.
