Challenge 2
200% Boost Gauge Challenge

The 200% Boost Gauge Challenge is the second of three Boost Gauge missions in the game, the first being the 300% Boost Gauge Challenge in Green Hill and the third being Endless Boost in Rooftop Run.

I'm not sure whether to decide if this is more or less impressive than the 300% Boost Gauge Challenge. Certainly, I'd bet it doesn't seem quite as appealing as your boost gauge is smaller...but as it's smaller, it's more of a challenge, since like the 300% Boost Gauge Challenge in Green Hill, your gauge does not replenish.

But hey, what do I know about people? The Pokémon cards that wind up with the highest value to collectors are the ones with the biggest numbers on them. I suppose a lot of people like to feel powerful, hence the preoccupation with Super Sonic. (Personally, I never liked playing as Super Sonic much, at least in regular stages. It makes things too easy. I will confess here: Every video I've had that features Super Sonic, except the Sonic & SEGA All-Star Moves Montage, has felt like a chore to me.)

Anyway, like the challenge in Green Hill, this one is also fine-tuned to give you benefits from boosting, either on the ground or in the air. You can see that right at the start when you're given a bunch of flat ground with Eggrobos on it, for instance. You'll see it again and again throughout this stage, such as at 0:33, where I barely miss some clouds that would've put Sonic on a shortcut, or when Sonic first enters the building later on that allows you to skip some platforming.

By the end, Sonic's boost gauge is almost depleted.

I actually quite like these challenges that impose a limitation on Sonic (and other game characters, such as Mario Galaxy's Daredevil Runs). Personally, it's more fun to succeed under adverse circumstances than to have overwhelming power.

  • Some times it's nice to be powerful, just to relax a bit after the completion of a game. It's a kind of reward for all your efforts. The thing is that you have to know to keep a balance between being overpowered and being challenging with yourself

  • @pet1996 I find it weird that it's unusually popular, particularly anything related to Super Sonic.

  • Right, sonic games are TOO EASY, is centered in run than a adventure, the enemies die with a single hit even being killed with a jump. When Sonic goes super is like the Super Saiyan you know, the hero defeat the enemy in seconds if its transform dont over, the sonic games are "cool" but the mario games still goes with because have the TOUCH, TINNNN.

  • @Overhazard Looks like a lot of people are just too thrilled by his speed to neglect Super Sonic

  • Is it just me, or is the sound a bit unsynchronized with the video?

  • Do you fail these extended boost missions if you run out of boost before you reach the goal?

  • Looks like the springs from Sky Rail are back...
