From his second appearance on the Johnny Cash Show this is Ray Charles giving Johnny's No. 1 hit "Ring of Fire" a soul treatment. It was released on his then current country album "Love Country Style". Taped on Ray's 40th birthday this was aired on Sep. 23rd, 1970.

Ray Charles was a musical genius. The man could sing country, blues, jazz and he did it all so well. He put his touch on this song and made it a so soulful. He did his mother so proud. He made it on his own terms and was not a burden to anyone. I believe when he got to the afterlife his mother hugged him and told him well done son. You made your mother so proud.

Ray Charles was a genius...!! The way he took Johnny's song and reworked the whole tempo and arrangement was nothing short of amazing! That funky blues & jazz tempo just sends this number to a whole 'nother planet, baby...!! I had a friend who was secretary to Tom Dowd(Ray's Atlantic engineer). She said Ray called looking for Tom one day, he was out so she had to take a message. She told me that she told Ray, "You don't have to tell me who this is, I would know that voice anywhere!" Ray laughed!
