Interesting you should talk about the practice of bleeding, and call it "tragic, wrong and irrelevant". Dr. Rush was the most famous bleeder of the day. He believed people with emotional problems had to much blood in there head, so he bleed them, many to death. Now for the big Joke - Dr. Rush is considered the Father of American Psychiatry. His face is on the seal of The American Psychiatric Association. Thinking about it, blood letting is as dangerous, and useless, as current treatments.
How does drugging someones emotions and telling them that they have a lifelong illness (which is biological) give them a chance? Surely, people would have to sort out their emotions to really fix the problems, and this can't be accurately done in a blunted state. You can put symptoms in 'remission' just as easily with a lead pipe to the head.
Your impression of Szasz is inaccurate. He understands that emotional problems are serious and does not 'condemn' people with these issues.
The world will never change and it is quite obvious that people are being used as "test subjects" in order to attempt some sort of universal mood-change through these drugs, which will never happen. People are fucked up because they are sold a bill of goods during childhood which turn out to be a really weak fucking fairy tale. Let's start there - stop lying to our children. They won't grow up to be so god damn conflicted!

I'm glad this video is out there because so many people take psychiatry with a blind faith. It's sad, really.
