Tele...I was thinking the same thing that Sero must be a floor nurse, or work in a rural setting, or both. Typically in the ICU (and I work in a major heart hospital in Texas), we call the shots, so this is not unusual at all!

No doctor I've ever worked with, no matter the size of their ego, would ignore "This pt is about to code".

I'm sensing a lot of hostility here. Once again, why must everything degenerate into a mud-slinging contest? Truth is, the hospital could not function a day without Doctors AND Nurses. They're two different jobs, both important. That both groups seem to have so little respect for their colleagues is both surprising and sad.

No matter what you publish..no matter how much noise you all make...Nurses will NEVER be in charge and will never know what things even close to the level we do....unless they go to medical school.....But nurses sure do like to remind us all...ALL THE TIME...how smart they are....we just sit back laugh and drive the ship..MD = makes decisions....RN = Read my notes

@TYERHOUSECHICK She was the only one at the desk, the others were busy with something. I have seen doctors make nurses cry for their own stupidity, I have seen doctors and nurses both that I believe should be given a medal for the crap they put up with and I have had an ICU nurse tell me he was God and the only reason the patients lived. Give it time....you will see things you could never believe =).

@eddyhourani give it time....you will be surprised at what happens in a hospital and how some doctors don't care. Not all doctors and nurses are arses but you will see some that just don't care about anything. Two years in medical records....when you are invisible to the nurses and the doctors you see things that most don't see. I actually timed a nurse for 20 minutes sitting at the desk with a call light going on...she refused to do anything because it was almost time to go home.

I've seen and heard of some doctors who refused to help patients in some pretty bad circumstances.

Doctors are like any other group of people. Some aren't as good.
