Moose rescue in Island Park, Idaho. A Cow Moose fell thru the ice into the frozen lake and could not climb out. Her calf stood by her on the ice watching her tread water and crying for her, encouraging her to climb out. When help arrived (us), the calf walked up and touched her mothers nose, and then left to watch from the bank above as two Fish & Game Officers,a Fremont County Sheriff Deputy, and a local resident (me) rescued its mom. The Moose was in the water for over 2 hours. Attempts to pull her out failed. Finally, I used my chainsaw to cut a path in the ice toward shore where she could climb out of the freezing water. The Fish & Game were going to have to destroy her and the calf if we couldn't get her out of the frozen lake. Both mom and calf are doing well. We have seen them a couple of times since this eventful Friday after Thanksgiving 2010.
Your wonderful people to assist as you did!
