The collective head for my DIY collective. Made for DCS Black Shark.

The top-plate + thumbswitches etc will be painted black.

The lower thumbjoy is used to slew the Skhval sensor of the Black Shark, the upper thumbswitch is used for weapons selection.

  • I haven't had the chance to look at the drawings yet, as I'm still at work... Did you fabricate this your self? I'm very impressed with it all... I'll have a look at the dwgs when I get home today...

  • Yep, I own a lathe (together with a friend) and we have a mill at work. No CNC unfortunately :-(

  • Ahh I see now... Can't see that in the clip.. I noticed when you touched the top center button, the bottom one moved as well.. Can you lower that that thumbjoy, or is that the lowest it will go? My thoughts when I see you move between those two, is that it looks a bit uncomfortable... Don't get me wrong, I really like what you've done, Im trying to get a feel for this myself...

  • Yep, you got to stretch a little to reach the top one, but this is only done rarely (to select weapon station). Problem is that if I make the top one longer then I hit it with my thumb when I move the lower one towards the top. So I'll just have man up and take the pain :-)

  • btw, I've added a link to the drawings under "more info"

  • Looks very good... As a machinist, wouldn't the lower middle button be better if it were cone or oval shape? I know you want to differentiate from the top button and I do like what you've done, it just seems that it would be a bit more comfortable than have that edge all around..

  • Thanks, I'm not quite sure I follow...the lower thumbjoy has a gradual indentation in the middle. The center is about 2 mm lower that the edge.

  • if u lowered the shaft of the bottem pov switch or extended the top one u would solve the problem of hitting both with your thumb, at least id assume so. looks awesome mate

  • Well that's very impressive that you both set out on something like this... I've been a machinist/toolmaker for 35 yrs and this is very nice... I tip my hat off to you both...

Besides, DCS Black Shark is worth it too...
