GOLDEN VALLEY
A federal appeals court has ruled that a woman Tasered by Golden Valley Police in 2005 is entitled to a trial.
Sandra Brown of Plymouth sued the city of Golden Valley and Police Officer Rob Zarrett for use of excessive force following the incident on Oct. 8, 2005.
The city lost its bid in District Court to dismiss the case, and filed an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
The appeal panel of judges weren't convinced Zarrett had to use force with Brown. Zarrett, a former president of the Golden Valley Police union, has been a police officer in the city for 11 years.
Roger L. Kramer, a Mendota Heights-based attorney representing Sandra Brown, said the trial is expected to begin in October.
Bloomington attorney Jon K. Iverson is representing the city.

ST. LOUIS PARK
In St. Louis Park, a partnership of volunteers between Spirit of Christ Community Lutheran Church, 5801 Minnetonka Blvd, and the Sorensen, Birchwood, and Bronx Park neighborhoods collected more than 2,000 pounds of food, school supplies, and more than $500 in donations for the St. Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP). At STEP, $1 has the bulk food buying power of $9; thus STEP could purchase food worth $4,500 with the donation. With summer donations down, the collective neighborhood action helped restock empty shelves and care for local Saint Louis Park neighbors. Photos can be seen at www.churchinthepark.org.
