ok for one this is testing sparring not tournement sparring. second im a 3rd degree in ata and you probably couldnt do half the things i can do. and third ata is one of the biggest martial arts organizations in the world so tell me why does ata suck?

so, they are only supposed to good sparring in a tournament? Not in a rank test? Why do it at all then? Just a formality? Seems strage that in a test of rank you can just dance but only in a tournament do you try and do your best.

Since you're in ATA you might know this. I've been wondering for the longest time, why doesnt the ATA compete against other styles in tournaments?

@ifrit1780 Because they know they'd get their asses handed to them. High kicks are worth more points in ATA so everyone hops on one foot when they spar or jump kicks to the head. they are getting world champ honors because they can hop on one foot. it's whoever can kick over the other person's kick and tap the head that wins in tournaments. I am sick of seeing these kid black belts with World Champ on thier backs who walk around like their shit don't stink. it's dumb.

have taken shorin ryu, jujitsu, shodin ji do and currently in ATA. I enjoy ATA but have never seen a belt test, sparring class or anything like this. Schools are run under certain guidelines but also with instructor discretion so there is a difference between schools. Had I seen this before joining ATA, I probably wouldn't have joined since I was never good at Ballet. Embarassing.

I agree with battlestar 313. The ATA always points out that they're the biggest and therefore don't suck. the majority of the world has believed lots of stupid things that will get the hell beat out of them. Is testing sparring just fancy ballet dancing bullcrap and that's the criterion for advancement? As for me not being able to do half the things you can, maybe. But the thing I can do that you can't is WIN FIGHTS and NOT GET MY ASS BEAT. I'm a boxer, BJJ, TKD, and HKD guy by the way.

Ah, That makes sense. So thats why I could never find any videos of ATA against another martial art. You know, I always wanted to watch a match between ATA and Kyokushin Karate =P
