"For in one hour so great riches is come to nought" etc. Jerusalem comes nowhere near. It is an insignificant player of the world economy, culture etc. Read the chapter and think of the US. It will make a lot more sense.

The distance that you can see burning depends on how it is destroyed. You are thinking in terms of know methods of destruction. I suspect even in our time, Israel may already be the world's most advanced nation.

The best Technology of the USA and the Soviet Union migrated there. This is the only country that has had a chance to fuse the best of these technologies. The result could move technology forward generations.

The RCC teaches that all faiths are the truth faith and incorporates the worship of idols and Mary, turning her into a sinless savior. They would note that they don't worship her but actions speak louder than words.
