The NC10 seems to have a frequent problem which causes the screen to become all white (or another single color).

Forum reports say that moving the display cable around can fix this problem - at least temporary.

This video shows how to disassemble the lid, reach LCD panel and the cable, and then how to get everything back together again.

Amazingly, this really made the white screen problem go away even nothing was really repaired. First successful cable massage I've ever seen :-)

Update: The problem was completely gone for 6 weeks, then started to reappear. Currently I'm working around it by squeezing the back of the lower right corner of the screen until it goes away again.

To fix this permanently you'd probably have to replace the cable, which is difficult because:
- you'd have to find a replacement cable (anyone know of a source?)
- you'd have to get the new cable through the hinge
- you'd have to connect it at both ends, so you'd have to disassemble not only the panel part, but also the keyboard part of your device.

Update 2: I got this fixed (for now) by pulling the cable slightly out of the base. This brings the damaged cable part away from the hinge area. Will update how long this holds. Use at your own risk.

  • grazie di cuore! E' bastato riposizionare il flex seguendo la tua guida e tutto è tornato perfetto. Bye from Italia

  • @mailcip Keine Ursache, freut mich, wenn es geholfen hat :) Viele Grüße aus Deutschland

  • Hmmm... can't be a burn-in because the NC-10 has an LCD screen and these don't burn in.

Probably some sort of HW problem. If opening the lid to max position helped, I think this might be a problem with the cable.

Maybe try the cable trick shown in the video. If fiddling with the cable helps, maybe you find a cable position which works permanently.

Be careful though, this will void your warranty and may make an existing hardware problem worse if you overdo it. So try at your own risk.

  • The problem occurs at the bend of the cable, where the hinges are. This is not a repair, but the short-term placebo. It is mechanical damage to the cable and massaging it will not do anything because the problem will return. Massaging you do not remove the mechanical damage to the cable. I know what I say because the cable repaired.

  • @hejkumkejkum2 I suspected that the wires become brittle at the hinge where they are bent all the time. If this is the case, moving another part of the cable to the problematic spot should buy some time.

Time will tell how much time this gets, my unit has been working flawlessly for 4 weeks now.

  • Pointless video !

shows you how to remove the screen and fuck about with the cable but NOT replace it

  • But one day i just closed my laptop, still working properly, and it went off, i went to sleep. But the next day when i opened my laptop it had white stripes vertical and blue stripes vertical. And there was no possibility of seeing the normal screen, just the stripes.

Is this a hardware problem, or something burned into my graphics part of the laptop? Or is it a cable not working, like on this video? Please help me..

  • Hi, i'm having a way worse problem than probably any of you with a white screen, or a flickering screen.

I once let samsung nc10 fall and after that it had a somehow purple screen (still able to see the main screen properly), and if i stretched the laptop out the the max i could still use it without any display problems.

  • Excellent video! Many many thanks for these clear instructions! I fixed the white screen within 30 minutes...Maybe another tip: I noticed the wire from the motherboard to the screen was squeezed a little at the folding point from the base and the screen part of the laptop. By pulling out the cable slightly (there was room in the base/motherboard part, be careful of course!!), the squeezed part or the wire was now 'unpressured'. After that the screen works perfectly, after many tests. THANKS!!

  • just did this and it seems to have worked.. many thanks for this very useful video..
