I can't find Chaga, I live in Northern IL. Does it grow here?

Hi - Is it only the brown part of the chaga that hould be used as tea? Or is the black edible also? Does it only grow on birch trees?

the last thing we need is to over-harvest chaga. It takes at least a couple decades to form. Please do it modestly if at all ;) heck, if I found chaga I'd never sell it. It's worth soo much more than colored paper and copper coins <3 xox
