is her voice totally huge huge or am i mistaken?

People need to realize that the reason this is hard to understand in English is because

1 it's an old live recording,

2 she is not a native speaker (some accent),

3 operatic soprano vibrato,

4 the English is not word-for-word, obviously, so as to fit the musical meter

I don't care for operas to be translated from their original languages. I wouldn't go to a performance of Die Zauberflöte if it weren't in German.

....I am not happy to say it, but no, I don't really understand what words she is using...Her voice as always is amazing. I have heard several singers where I am not sure what language they are singing. The word's may not be "clear", but the technique, and musicality is incredible~.

I <3<3<3<3 Deutekom. She's amazing. But I have to agree...English is my native tongue (followed by ASL), and I had no idea this was in English :S . BUT that aside, the technique and the voice makes up for that 200000% ~! XD

After listening to quite a few different singers now, I can say she is the BEST. I was scared out of my pants and the Fs, though crystalline, strike enough fear in me that I would never, ever cross her. Deutekom rules!

@Vincenzo2010an Maybe her English isn't good, but her singing is perfect and esp. this recording (despite the heavy sound distorsion) is one of the best - or may be the best performance of Der Holle Rache on youtube.
