The chassis is the same as the Yaris, but the drivetrain is actually taken directly from the latest Corolla...and this is why the Xd is such a strong performer. Plus, because it has the Corolla drivetrain, the Yaris chasis, the reliability is much stronger than the lackluster under-powered Honda Fit, and ugly Nissan Versa.
Yes, I like this car. I have even driven one of these with the Automatic. Not a bad car at all for the money. The back seat is a little tight for adults but doable for relatively short trips. Still its not designed to have the interior space of the Matrix which has a much roomier back seat. I like the XD though and wouldn't mind having one eventually. Drives nicely with relatively taught suspension although it is definitely not a sports car. Toyota reliability helps.
Georgenfla, the Xd is a good car, but c'mon. You say the Corolla is 'already fast' which is completely not true. I/H/E will help free up some HP, and the 1.8 liter is decent, but you can get a Mitsubishi Lancer that is a sport compact, comes base with a 2.0 liter MIVEC engine making 152 Hp AND gets 31 mpg. The base Lancer even starts a couple hundred less than the scion XB.
Not a bad car, but if you include the Mazda 3 as being in the same class, so is the Lancer, and therefore can be beat.
The Xd is actually pretty quick when equiped with a fresh air intake, and less restrictive exhaust. Toyota Corolla drivetrain, and less weight than a Corolla, makes it even faster than the already fast Corolla. You cant beat that with any other car in its class. The only thing that comes close is the Mazda 3, but also the Mazda is $3000 more.
This car is "XD" I might have one~

Fadelakin, the Scion's 1.8 liter is very receptive to turbo charging. Its got a bullet proof engine, very strong lower end.

I placed a cold intake and put on a turbo kit and I beat a chevy impala at a race.
