I wrote songs for and named the band Nickelback. I named the Dark Horse album for George Harrison's (The Beatles) '74 album of the same name. This was years after I wrote Material Girl for Madonna inspired by George Harrison's album titled "Living in the Material World". Chad takes his stage name for Chad Channing formerly of Nirvana. I was discovered by Joe Elliott of Def Leppard at age 15 in 1983. 2 Ricks in Def Lep & there were 2 Ryans in Nickelback.

@GoodGuitarSolos ahhh i see! wow! you really just opened my eyes haha.

@ZEBUTRON5000 Yup, the voice type isn't dependant on going high. I mean, there are deep baritones like Chris Cornell, David Coverdale and Axl Rose who have gone SO high in full voice, yet are pretty low-placed baritones. Then there are some low tenors (and even higher) who haven't even gone up to high C (C5). It is all about technique! Chad's technique is damn good, his high notes are almost unmatched around A4-B4.
-
@GoodGuitarSolos yeah haha. are you sure though? doesnt a regular baritone go up to like a G4 or something? and chad can hit like the C above that. i dont really know much about which category that falls under though lol.

@ZEBUTRON5000 He is actually even lower than a high baritone, just a regular baritone voice (so really low). Anyway, his technique is fantastic. I don't like their music, but Chad's singing is fucking fantastic. The chorus of "This Means War", for example, has some incredible high notes.

@GoodGuitarSolos well thats encouraging to hear! haha. im just wicked jealous of chad. he is a like a high baritone. after listenign to the new album, im just amazed. i really want to get a coval range like him someday. and yea. i think chad kroeger is probably one of the best singers alive. haha.

@ZEBUTRON5000 I actually made the video. *Snort*
Anyway, it is nice to see you defending Chad. He is a fantastic singer, even my Nickelback-hating friends acknowledge it.
Flatout2 :)

@sk1ppie there is a video on youtube of all the different notes chad kroeger can hit. it ranges about 4 octaves. or just listen to his songs and pick out the low notes like in feeling way too damn good. and the really high ones, like Never Again. Its pretty fun to do! haha. and James Hetfield. Im not sure. His vocal range has changed a lot over the years, it used to be really high with the kill em all stuff. but now its a pretty average range. ill look into it!
