in my case, xanax, has various tapering schedules that help you get off when you don't need it anymore. I was at 3mg/day, now I'm down to 1.5mg and still doing fine, other than the occassional shakey hands or pain in my shoulders, both of which are livable. So yeah, I guess you are wrong.
