Scene from the hilarious spoof of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, "The Phantom of the Opry" takes place in modern day Paris, KY. In this scene, the Phantom (Michael Crisp) serenades the kidnapped love, Crystal Dalton (Monica Niemi).

"Country Music Night"

The time has come to make this realization.
Country music lacks imagination.
It makes us feel so dense,
and insults intelligence...

Patsy Cline had elegance and splendor
Even "Hee Haw" gave us Freddy Fender
Turn your head around, Let your
ears absorb the sound
The sound of country music sung so right
And be swallowed by the country music night

A country song played backwards can be quite a treat
Your wife comes back, and you get your job back too
And your mom, she gets out of jail, that's true
All this and more, no I wouldn't lie to you

Lyrics sounding like incessant chatter
Love lost, love found, same old subject matter
Songs about girlfriends, and the trouble with their men
Songs about the weekend party lights
the neon of the country music nights.

Let me guide your career into this strange, new world!
I'll take you to those heights not known before!
And when you think that you've got it in the bag
That's when your sales and your boobs begin to sag

I will have you in every publication
Your face, your voice, spread across the nation
And when it hits the pits, we'll release your greatest hits
Songs with lyrics that your fans recite
The lyrics of the country music night

You alone can help me fight the fight
Help me save the country music night

This scene is taken from a Fall 2006 performance.

There are several excellent "Phantom of the Opry" videos posted on my YouTube account, plus a bonus video of Monica Niemi performing "Remember Me" at:

Note: There's a brief review of one of the microphones we used in "Phantom of the Opry" at the start of the clip - but the full song immediately follows

  • Hi Soubrette - we made it in 2006 and got permission from a karaoke company to use the background tracks, and used the legal right to parody in order to insure it was a legal production. But it wasn't authorized by Andrew Lloyd Webber or the actual Phantom people of course. Thanks for the compliments though!

  • You've made alot of mistakes with the lyrics in the description, I'm not sure if its because thats what you heard or if you've just tried to add your own bits in. Try sorting them out and reposting, good luck and take care.

  • I wrote the script, and the actors are occasionally improvising throughout the song - I posted the original written lyrics in this scene - but thanks for the feedback, it's not often I get criticized (most people, such as myself, find me to be both humble and incredibly brilliant, so it's actually quite refreshing...somewhat like a brisk, delicious soda)

  • First off, "Most eople such as myself find me to be both humble and incredably brilliant" Lol. I'm not sure if that was supposed to be a joke, but its so obviously backwards and contradictory I'm assuming it must be. But hey, I'm glad you have something to help you sleep at night. I'm not sure if you wrote that script or not, but the two dont match up was the point I was making.

    Take care Y'all hahaha

  • Word up.

  • Listen, I'm a die hard phantom phan too, but this realy is just in good fun. I agree that ALW wrote a beautiful play based on my favorite book ever by Gaston Lerux, but I don't think this was meant to be offencive... and niether is this but... are you deff? You like the movie beter, Gerard Buttler sucks at singing. Oh, but I do agree that HSM is crap.

  • Hahaha this was too funny! I'm a big Phantom phan, but I like to watch an occasional parody from time to time. Nice job!

  • @Poet2916 Forgot to add this in earlier-(except for the movie which was a stinker IMO)

  • This is so hilarious! I love all things Phantom and I'm sure Andrew would honestly get a kick out of this hahahah! What I love most about this parody is that although it does poke fun at Phantom, the actors voices are actually pretty decent...

  • hahahah this was my favorite song from the phantom. lol thanks for ruining it... even though the lyrics are partially true and it is quite hilarious hahahaha

  • haha hilarious lyrics :P I'm a great PtO fan, but this is great :P

  • Thanks for the spam, dalle6655 - I'll definitely check out that site when-never I get the opportunity...!

  • lol i love country and i think this is funny xD but i still like the original version better! this is so funny xD

  • Wow, I am HUGE Phanatic, and I can't believe they were allowed to make a parody using the exact same music. It's awesome!
