learning goals in Houdini. It's custom controlled with a VOPpop with balanced wind force, so is more directable than a standard maya goal. But with maya it'd require multiple particle systems, various goals PP expressions. And if the given smoothness/weight aren't good enough (often 0.1 weight is already too abrupt), a custom goal expression is needed.
haven't edited the rotation. Will control by normal/velocity next time.
I tested 1 million points (4k particles, 256 points per instance tree), and runs about 1fps on a laptop. It's not rendered since I can't see detailed motion with that amount of geometry.
