@OtakuAudioRedux, thank you so much for dissuading that theory, I was worried I had just ruined the anime or something. Now I can finish watching episode 9 without feeling like I know the ending already.

What I heard was, originally, the anime was going to contain two different stories but they weren't able to do that, so this PlayStation game covers the "second story" that wasn't used in the anime.

It's always shocking when the camera doesn't blank out or turn away when Lain kills herself. Just hearing the gunshot and her lifeless body lying there is enough to keep me up for weeks. An then the laugh...
