@finando These were born in captivity as many in the U.S. are... No need to call WWF.

@finando I understand that taking Hyacinths from the wild has threatened them... But also the destruction of their land threatens them... With the success of breeding them in captivity, there is no reason to remove them from the wild.

@5awesomeparrots just as well she's a sweetie, ! they use that awesome bill to open Brazil nuts. you wouldn't want to upset her!

@5awesomeparrots The captive breeding of these beautiful birds does help to preserve the species but there is the problem of biodiversity. If the gene pool gets to small to avoid in-breeding they are just as vulnerable to extinction as disease resistance weakens and risk of genetic deformities increases. We need to stop destroying their natural habitat to preserve these wondrous birds.

when you say she doesnt want the camera in ultimatum she really does
Hyancinth Macaws are such gorgeous birds. One of my close friends happens to have one, Boss, and he is a true character but where we come from you have to have a permit to have one because of their presence on the endangered list. I think it is wonderful that people are breeding in captivity these days and helping to bring their numbers back up. If people would stop destroying the rain forests then maybe, just maybe, we could stop all this needless destruction of our birdy friends. Birds rule!!

@zoonosisprognosis They are gorgeous & such gentle giants... I agree.. It'd be wonderful if their homeland was so threatened & they could thrive there... Birds do rule!!!
