The Swiss Psalm is the national anthem of Switzerland. It was composed in 1841, by Alberich Zwyssig (1808--1854). It replaced Rufst Du, mein Vaterland ("When You Call, My Country", French O Monts indépendants; Italian Ci chiami o patria, Romansh E clomas, tger paeis) the anthem by Johann Rudolf Wyss (1743--1818) which was set to the melody of God Save the Queen.

On April 1, 1981, the Swiss Psalm was declared the official Swiss national anthem.

Performed by the Berlin Philharmonic.

  • @MoritzBilger94 just look at the movie Verdingbueb--or read the book about the ticinese boys sold to milanese chimmey sweeper by their poor parents.

---only 70 years ago lots of swiss children were sitting bare-feet on their school desks, only a few geenrations ago Switzerland was the poorhouse of Europe, this is a fact.

  • @hyurgy123 Switzerland wasnt the poor house of Europe at all!

  • ------ BEAUTIFUL_________

  • Emociona, cada vez que ouço.

  • Patria mea, tu me educavisti et nutritum a fructibuis terrae tuae fui.

  • @hyurgy123 Thank you...that's very interesting. Our relatives seem to have been swept up by an emigration of Mennonites who settled in Pennsylvania. My relatives still have splendid farms there.

  • @radam238 Eisenhower-Hoover and even Barrack Obama have swiss roots( Gutknecht), Switzerland was Europe's poorhouse befor ww1--so many good swiss emigrated to the States.

  • I found out relatively recently that I have many Swiss ancestors. I had known that much of my family had Swabian roots, but our research has confirmed that we also have Swiss roots as far back at least to the 1500s. This anthem gives me chills...I somehow feel proud of my Swiss roots. And I've been there, and it is indeed breathtakingly beautiful. I love it!
