I've always thought that Elvis Costello should cover this---this vocalist sounds just like him!

A 'Paper Daddy' is a 'Sugar Daddy', a benevolent male figure.
I bought this 45 and I still think it's fabulous. Former-Springfield Mike Hurst produced this as well as the Cat Stevens (who wrote it) version.

Love the bongos, cello, and fuzz guitars. Would this fall under the Northern Soul genre?

I think, according one set of lyrics I read, that it's meant to be "favourite daddy"!

After listening to this, I have to ask the same question I've always wondered about this song...What on earth is a "Paper Daddy"?
