On June 10, 2011, the first EA-6B Prowler took its last flight. Aircraft number 160432 was sent to the Stricken Aircraft Reclamation Disposal Program and will be on display aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point.
Funny story about the Prowler, I'm in Afghanistan on Bagram airfield. The first couple of nights at about 3am I swear I heard an incoming mortar round and rolled out of my rack with my hands over my head. An incoming mortar round makes 2 sounds, 1 good and 1 bad. The bad sound is a whisle with a buzz which tells you that sucker is getting ready to land on your head. Well when a Prowler is throttled back and making an overhead break prior to landing it whisles and the jammer pods give you a buzz!
