Didn't that bridge used to be swung across the water? My grandpa used to take me fishin' (rock bass) on it back in 1960. We used to eat the fish. Lots of current and crawdads. Good times!

they call where you were the "dirkey" now plus you know those 2 buildings in the lot onthe way in the island well now if you go to the dirkey right before the tracks to get over the water make a left there will be a fence then just walk right up to the tallest building it used to be used for training the firefighters but now it's abandoned

I use to jump from the top as a teen in the early 80's. I met my wife of 28 years swimming there. I did a back flip from the top showing off to her. OUCH. Great memories.

Back in the day it was Penn Central,my dads dad and my dad were fairly rooted in the the NT area , the railroad being their source of a living & income through the depression era, haven't seen that bridge in decades ,RR bridges, Tressles, barges on the canal, lift bridges, draw bridges, images planted in my head as soon as I was able to be in a car and see them,I was absolutely fascinated ...thanks for taking the time to film this...there's still something about seeing this industrious machinery

CAn't belive they want to get rid of it.....
I saved a friend from drowning at the swing bridge when I was 15 or 16 years old. He was stoned and drunk on Jack daniels. He went under about half between the dock and bridge on the Tonawanda side. I dove in and pulled him up. He was so stoned and druck, he couldn't climb the dock to get out of the water.
