President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao emphasized areas of cooperation in a joint news conference at the White House Wednesday. President Obama noted China's help in enforcing sanctions on Iran, reducing tensions on the Korean peninsula and continuing to explore clean energy.

Obama also typified part of the relationship as one based on 'friendly competition' which 'spurs both countries to innovate.' The two countries continue to differ on issues concerning human rights, the undervalued Chinese currency and creating a level playing field for economic competition in China.

President Hu Jintao echoed Obama's emphasis on cooperation saying that 'China and the US share expanding common interests and responsibilities.' But he also indicated areas in which his government is not willing to compromise, namely issues of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and path to development.
