So what? according to Shia tradition, the Islamic Sayyids are descendants of the Sassanian kings via Shahrbanu, the Persian wife of Imam Hussein ibn Ali (3rd Imam). That means that from the 4th Imam onward, all Shia Imams are also Persians and descendants of Zoroastrians.

Khatami talks well and comes across as liberal minded compared to the rest of the clergy in Iran. He talks a lot about democracy and promotes discussion with the "west". However there are evidences that he holds prejudice against some ethnic groups in Iran, particularly he discriminate against Turks.

There are clips in the Youtube that shows him entertaining his friends in a private function, with racial slure and then concluding that Ardabil Turks are stupid.!
