Debussy - Musiques pour Le Roi Lear
I Fanfare
II Le sommeil de Lear
Arranged for the Ricciotti Ensemble by Hinse Mutter
Debussy wrote some five minutes of music for a presentation of King Lear in 1904. Unfortunately, he did not go farther than two excerpts: a powerful fanfare of a minute and a half which opens and closes with loud trumpets and percussion surrounding a central section of a more pensive nature, and a three-minute intermezzo called "Le Sommeil de Lear" (Lear Asleep), an excerpt of meditative but uneasy atmosphere. ~ Hector Bellman, Rovi
Performed by the Ricciotti Ensemble under the baton of Gijs Kramers, on the 4th of January 2012 in the Triavium in Nijmegen, during the orchestra's 'Literatour'.
