@theRENThead sorry, no. the wiz is definitely a show written in the context of african-american experience. not just the music, but the book and the way the characters speak also reflect this. today, it's a show that appeals to all races, but it was definitely written for the purpose of being performed with an all-black cast.
it's actually been revived several times and the cast has generally remained all-black. broadway.com even has footage of encores! production from last summer.

@utterbullspit the only reason why the wiz was an all black musical in the seventies was because of the modernization of theatre movement.
but it's really just an updated. more rhythm and blue version of the wizard of oz now. any race can pass. its more of the music behind it.
if broadway were to do a revival, I'm pretty sure there would be some diversity.
