Candling is the process used for examining eggs
for contamination and other defects.
Think of it almost as an xray for eggs,
where internal parts can be examined without breaking the egg.
In a darkened room, a bright light source is used to show details
through the egg shell
The method takes its name from the fact that candles where once used
to inefficiently perform this task.
Blood spots, meat spots, crack lines and other defects can easily be detected before distributing edible eggs to consumers.
