Climate Emergency Rally TV News

Compilation of Sydney television news on the national climate emergency rally held across Australia on Saturday 13 June 2009.

The event generated blanket media coverage focussing on the challenge to the government to target at least 40% emission reduction by 2020 and even 100% renewable energy by that date. Climate Change Minister Penny Wong has been forced to defend the government against this bold plan, saying "What many of these people are calling for simply can't be done". The next step for climate groups is to tell the government to "prove it!" The Zero Carbon Australia plan to be released soon will provide a blueprint for a 100% renewables by 2020 plan for Australia.
