The degradation into chaos, and then the sudden resolution, makes this piece one of those which gives me chills, and brings a teary, radiant smile to my face, all at the same time.
There are just a few works which do this for me; a few particular phrases in Bach and Sibelius do it for me; Beethoven and some American folk tunes do it. This piece does it every single damned time.

Amazing clarity, especially in the fugue theme + Purcell's theme syncretism, but what pathetic applause! They must still be reeling in their seats, blown away by the amazing music, am I right?
Great interpretation! Very transparent so that every detail in the texture appears clearly. Thanks for sharing.
