I drink about 3 glasses a week but still... I couldn't stop to have a good single malt on a friday night after a hard day of work.

I did the Cold Turkey thing starting... I think this is week 3? Lost track of time because I stopped caring.
Then again, I was giving up Rum, hence the reintroduction to Scotch which I've missed.

Ralfy you are my new hero. I enjoy whisky for a year or two now and you are truly helping me to step up to the next level of nosing and tasting. I enjoy every bit of you talking truly passionate about the subject. Subscribed!
Hi ralfy... I really enjoy your stuff and being a brand new enthuthiast I find it very helpful... One of the things I find very hard to tackle though is the difference between "peatiness" and "smokiness"... and do you have a good trick to identify different subtle smells as opposed to the general smell of the whisky?

A good trick is ... patience, practice and perseverence. Be aware we all have a certain amount of sensory disfunction so it is always better to enjoy what you experience rather than fret over what you feel you are supposed to experience.

ralfy, would you consider possibly doing a series on older whiskies for those of us on a (semi) budget? I'm 27 and have a girlfriend, I can only justify buying maybe one bottle of whisky over $100 USD a year. You do a great job covering plenty of younger whiskies more in my price range, but the price tags on older malts can be a little overwhelming (at least in the US), especially for Islays.
Oldest I've had was Macallan 18, which was totally uninspiring.

@JoeDawg15
some older whisky reviews coming along soon, and I will advise on value !
For now, look out for Old Pulteney 17yo and Glenfarclas 21yo.

Can you enjoy a cigar as you enjoy your favorite whisky simultaneously? Or is that considered illegal to your palate?

@TheChrisYo
that would not be illegal on my palate, however I enjoy a cigar with a coffee followed by a whisky ! ... just personal preference.
