Feature about the scrappy Rufous hummingbird produced by Peter Rosen, winner of the 2008 NPPA Award for Reporting and former KUTV reporter. (Photographed by Mike Sadowski and Peter Rosen. Edited and scored by Peter Rosen.)
You know the rufous are so agressive because they have to make that long journey over the gulf of mexico, a 600 mile trip without food, so they need to fatten up so to speak. I don't get that many here but they are a bit agressive
This was so nicely done and oh so true! My Rufus attacks me as I change it's feeder so I know how accurate this video is. I'm still laughing from the antics of these birds and what a great video! Thanks for the humor!
Laughing. This was such a treat. Great job!!! They have also been known, to spear one another with that long pointy beak. Have only seen two this season....thus far....omg!....can you believe it??? I am at my desk and one just buzzed in for a drink. Such a joy!
Hey "been there". Have you? You're watching and posting. Just think rocks and glass houses and all of that. This is great TV and while the photographer/editor is very talented, it was likely the reporter's idea and concept and he probably set the whole thing up. What he didn't do was get in the way. He put his ego aside and let the pictures talk, which is what TV stories like this are all about. It's a team thing, not a "who gets credit" thing. Should be more of this on TV
My previous comment seems a little mean looking back at it. I've watched all of Rosen's stories on youtube and they are all great stories. Talented reporter and talented photographers working together.
This is an amazing news pkg. Give ALL of the credit to this story to the photographer who shot this piece. Not anything amazing from the reporter, but amazing sequencing and nat pops from a very talented photographer.

LOL! I've been attacked by a hummingbird mom for taking pictures of her babies, so I know what they're talking about!
